Red Princess Blues (Short)

Grade : A Year : 2010 Director : Alex Ferrari Running Time : 11min Genre : , ,
Movie review score
A

Writer-director Alex Ferrari’s “Red Princess Blues” is a smart and kind of twisted take on Red Riding Hood, as a young girl (Zoe, played by Tabitha Morella) is lured into an after-hours carni tent by Rimo (Richard Tyson), who is the Big Bad Wolf of our story. As Rimo makes his basest intentions known, Zoe starts to realize she’s in over her head with this situation. Thankfully, there’s a fairy godmother of sorts (Rachel Grant) at the bar who doesn’t like what the Big Bad Wolf is doing.

At 11 minutes long, this movie is too short. I wanted more after it was done, which is a credit to what Ferrari and his cast and crew (including Robert Forester as the narrator) have cooked up. The music, mood, performances, and all the rest is spot-on for this grindhouse-style entertainment. There’s not a lot of depth to it, but the point is to get your juices flowing with action and depraved wit, and even at 11 minutes, you get your fair share of both.
