Izak's Choice - Les Mains (Short) (2011): A

What a beautiful expression of love and inspiration! For his second short film to me, French filmmaker Luc Plissonneau offered up his latest work for me, the short and sweet story of a pianist who is very selective of the type of student he will take on. Goth girl? Bye-bye. Middle-class teen? No thank you. But when a lovely young woman who refuses to speak comes to his door, he is enamored. Not long after, they are in love, and Izak has the confidence to audition for the chance at a recital of Chopin etudes. He wins the audition, but then tragedy strikes. But as any creative individual knows, sometimes tragedy can lead to great artistic inspiration. Plissonneau’s story hits all of the emotional bases, allowing us to see the delight of life and love, as well as the pain that gives us a chance to see what we’re really made of. It’s a wonderful film, and if the stars line up, I hope to hear more about this film beyond simply being given the opportunity to write about it.
